LET ANDREAS MALM INTO BRITAIN: SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE ISN’T A CRIME

rs21 •

We extend our unconditional solidarity with marxist intellectual Andreas Malm who has been banned from entering Britain. This is an act of political repression by the Home Office, who have justified this decision by claiming that Malm’s ‘presence in the UK is not considered to be conducive to the public good.’

Andreas was due to speak on the BBC, at an event hosted by Tribune, and at the Historical Materialism conference in London. In preventing his entry into the country the government is attempting to stifle speech and opposition to the government’s participation in the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the broader zionist project.

This decision reflects a major escalation of the use of the border as a tool of political repression in Britain. The Burnham Labour government is continuing where Starmer’s left off, with attacks on the Palestine movement and any who support it. We can see this in similar bans for commentators like Hasan Piker and the effective banning of Sally Rooney’s books due to her support for Palestine Action.

rs21 stands with Andreas Malm and the many others calling for Andy Burnham and his government to overturn this decision, allow Andreas Malm into Britain, and end the repression of the movement in solidarity with Palestine.
