Video: The right in Latin America
IS Scotland •Watch Mike Gonzalez, Neil Davidson and activists from ResistBrazil discuss the social and political situation in Latin America in two events held in Edinburgh last month.
Mike Gonzalez spoke on themes addressed in his new book The Ebb of the Pink Tide. The pink tide confronted the neoliberalism that dominated the ’90s in Latin America – but the mass movements that were its base have now been demobilised. (Video from an event on Friday 18 January at Lighthouse Books.)
Neil Davidson spoke on the rise of the right in Brazil. Bolsonaro is unlike far-right leaders in Europe in that his primary target is not migrants, but the black and indigenous sections of the population in Brazil. Meanwhile, the Workers’ Party is not yet in a position to oppose him. (Video from International Socialism Scotland and sfbbooks’ Latin America Forum on Saturday 19 January.)
Activists from ResistBrazil spoke on the social situation in Brazil, where violence against minorities is on the rise. (Video from International Socialism Scotland and sfbbooks’ Latin America Forum on Saturday 19 January.)
