Support remains strong as junior doctors continue strike action

Strike action over the new contract for junior doctors, that health secretary Jeremy Hunt says he will impose, is continuing for a second day in the latest round of action. Support remained strong for the doctors on picket lines yesterday.

At Northwick Park Hospital in North London, the cast of the surreal medical comedy Green Wing showed their support for junior doctors on the picket lines

Elsewhere in London, at Whipps Cross Hospital, doctors once again highlighted that the NHS is already a seven day service.

At St Thomas’s Hospital, strikers protested the sexist nature of the new junior doctors’ contract, which even the governments own reports admits is the case. Doctors were joined by Sisters Uncut on their picket line in central London.

Around 30 picketers at Ealing Hospital in west London were joined by the secretary of Ealing NUT yesterday morning. It is possible that teachers may take joint action with doctors in the coming months, protesting the forced academisation of schools.

Elsewhere in England, there were pickets at many hospitals, including Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester.

Meanwhile in Oxford, doctors picketed the John Radcliffe Hospital. They were particularly angry about the way the new contract will disproportionately affect part-time workers, the majority of whom are women.
