Amendments to support

Here are some member amendments that we encourage you to endorse. Amendments with the most endorsements will be included for voting over the conference weekend. 

These amendments aim to do things like increase party democracy, put the power in the hands of branches and members rather than e-democracy which usually favours whoever is currently in charge, and make sure the party is structured around solid socialist principles that mark it out from other political parties, e.g. by having MPs and staff take a “worker’s wage”. rs21 submitted several amendments, and these two have not been ruled out:

Amendment: Candidates for national and regional officers can be nominated by branches

What it does: Candidates for national and regional officers shall require either nominations from 5% of branches in the relevant area or a number of seconders determined by the CEC per officer election, from the membership they seek to be elected from, as determined by the election they seek to run in.

Amendment: Extend power to recall National and Regional Officers to branches

What it does: Members shall have a right to recall their national or regional party officers. If 40% of members in good standing or 40% of branches within the relevant area sign a dedicated recall petition for that areas officer(s), then this will trigger a vote on that(those) party officers’ continuation in the role via online systems. Active recall petitions will be available on the party website for a period of 28 days.
